At BU Homes we believe our role as a local estate agent goes far beyond selling houses - it’s about helping to build a stronger, safer and more inclusive community. A thriving neighbourhood is one where everyone feels they belong and that’s why we’re proud to champion ‘Knives Down, Gloves Up’, a powerful community initiative encouraging people to put down their knives and pick up boxing gloves.
Fighting for a better future
Through our partnership with Solihull Community Boxing, ‘Knives Down, Gloves Up’ offers a positive outlet for young people and adults alike. The message is simple but powerful - replace violence with discipline, fear with focus and isolation with belonging. Supported by the Mayor of Solihull, this initiative brings people together from all walks of life to engage in boxing-based fitness and mentoring sessions that promote respect, discipline and self-belief. The Mayor’s continued support reinforces the importance of grassroots programmes in tackling youth violence and nurturing local pride.
Inclusion at every level
Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. BU Homes is proud to sponsor uniforms for both children and adults, ensuring that everyone who takes part can wear the same kit and feel part of the team; regardless of their background or circumstances. We are also helping promote SEN-specific boxing sessions designed to make the sport accessible for participants with special educational needs. These tailored classes provide a safe, supportive environment where individuals can build confidence, coordination and social skills, all while feeling valued and included. “We’re not just providing uniforms, we’re providing unity. Every glove, every t-shirt, every session is about belonging.”
A community initiative that makes a difference
Boxing is the platform but community is the purpose:
• children and adults gain structure, focus and purpose
• friendships are formed through teamwork and mutual respect
• local role models emerge to inspire the next generation
• people from all backgrounds, including those with SEN, find a safe empowering space to grow
By making this programme inclusive, we’re giving everyone a fighting chance - in and out of the ring.
Get involved
We’re inviting local schools, youth workers, parents and residents to get behind ‘Knives Down, Gloves Up’. Whether you can volunteer, encourage someone to take part or simply spread the word, your support makes a real difference.
